Questions
How are the dates chosen?
For each day we work out the tithi, nakshatra, weekday and the times they change, for your city. A date is good when its nakshatra, tithi and weekday are the ones tradition gives for the occasion, following the nakshatra groups of the Muhurta Chintamani, with no Rikta tithi (Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi), Amavasya or Bhadra. The best time is in a suitable lagna, away from Rahu Kaal.
Why might another panchang differ a little?
Traditions differ on a few rules, such as whether to allow Pratipada or Shashthi, or to observe Chaturmas and Kharmas. We follow the classical rules and say which ones on your page. As a check, our Griha Pravesh dates for November and December 2026 match Shubh Panchang's New Delhi list, all 14.
Why are there no wedding dates in some months?
Weddings follow stricter rules: none in Chaturmas (until Dev Uthani Ekadashi), Kharmas or Pitru Paksha, none while Jupiter or Venus is combust, and only when the Sun is in Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna, Vrishchika, Makara or Kumbha. The eleven wedding nakshatras, without their gandanta padas, and the tithis other than Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi and Amavasya. Some lists allow those tithis, so you may see a date or two elsewhere that we leave out.
What if I can't make the best time?
Anywhere inside the good window still works. The best time is simply the strongest part of it.
Do I need my birth details?
No. Without them you get the dates that suit the occasion. With them, we also leave out the dates that don't suit your birth star. Many families use the birth details of the person the event is for: the owner of the home, vehicle or business.
Should we still ask our pandit?
Many families do, and your pandit may follow a local custom. Your page lists the nakshatra and tithi for every date, so it's easy to check together.
Which texts does this follow?
The nakshatra groups and rules of the Muhurta Chintamani, with the Sun and Moon calculated from Jean Meeus's Astronomical Algorithms and the Lahiri ayanamsa, as Indian panchangs use. See our method and sources.
